Review for Between Sunlight and Shadow
"Between Sunlight and Shadow", the 2nd album from Boulder, CO progressive
rock band Singularity, represents both an extension and a departure from
their debut CD "Color of Space". The band has lost a member, and the new
CD certainly has a different sound. Some of the tracks still exhibit the
band's affection for Rush, while others represent new musical ground. I
particularly enjoyed "Hold a Candle", a short but powerful song. The
melody and lyrics of "Hold a Candle" are great, and sound very different
from anything on the first CD. Further, the group works that same melody
into other tracks on the CD. Nuances like that are picked up as you
listen to the album a number of times. The CD as a whole should maintain
Singularity's core fans, while expanding their audience because of the new
musical directions. There seems to be tremendous evolution from their
first to their second CD. I, for one, anxiously await their third.
